Apiaries of Tentorium

Tentorium has its own apiaries. Collection of honey is made from the following apiaries:

·       Apiary “Bears’ field”  - situated in the region of Perm.

·       Apiary “Osinov lake” – located in Kungury area of the region of Perm.

·       Apiaries in Vishera reserve.

Tentorium keeps trying to revive the ancient traditions of beekeeping. That is why there are “Borts” used in apiaries despite of ordinary bee hives.

“Bort” means tree hollow, where the wild bees live. “Bort” honey differs from hive honey, it doesn’t fully ripe and is taken once in a year, in autumn. “Bort” honeycombs aren’t put in honey filters, they are pressed so that they contain every product of bee (bee pollen, beebread, beeswax).

The life of bees in “Borts” is maximally similar to their natural conditions of living. Wild bees are stronger than hive bees. They can fly an hour and a half more even in a rainy days. “Bort” honey is a little bit expensive because there not lots of places in the world where this type of honey is available. There are used so called “Kolodas” in Tentorium apiaries. “Koloda” is similar to “Bort” but not on a whole tree, on a middle cut tree. The life and honey collecting of bees in “Kolodas” is also same as in “Borts”. That’s why Tentorium honey is one of the best in Europe.

Apiaries, so called “Kolodas” in Vishera Reserve.

Osinov Lake Apiaries:

Apiary “Wasp nest” is located in Kungury area, at the shore of Karst Lake, on the bottom of Spas Mountain.

The place where these apiaries are situated – Silven Reserve is an unique and is thought to be the botanical phenomenon. You can find plants that are unique only for this Reserve, therefore honey collected from these flowers is having a specific and unique taste and properties.

Apiary “Bear’s field”

This apiary was created as an experimental one. Honey, beebread, royal jelly and propolis are collected here. Here are examined the technologies of “Borts” and “Kolodas”. Also, anybody who wants to study beekeeping is welcome here. This apiary is the nearest one to the Administrative center, complex  - Tentorium Hall, and is 30 km-s far from Perm.

The bees are in hives and “ kolodas” here. “Kolodas” are made of leafy trees. Bees stay here under the snow cover during winter times. In such conditions Beekeepers can’t help bees to survive  in winter comfortably, so here live only strong bee families, who can stay alive even in such extremely cold weather.

First “Borts” of Tentorium were created on the base of above mentioned apiaries in 2005. The same year first crop was received. Of course the first crop was not much, but it proved that “Borts” and “Kolodas” honey and beeswax were different from same of hives.
